Two University graduates from our village, each a recipient of the Ali Shungu Foundation Scholarships over the years, are managing the project, giving back to the community. Parents of the community are volunteering.
The children of Yambiro will have their summer filled with classes in art, music, sports, nutrition and dance. This is the archive of activities provided for the children by volunteers of the community and financed by the Ali Shungu Foundation.
Several Field Trips are planned for the children of Yambiro. The Otavalo area is filled with wonders that many of these children have never had the opportunity to enjoy. We will post photos and videos of these field trips. Who does not love field trips!?
GAMES, EXERCISE, NUTRITION, FUN
Four woman of the community have volunteered their time to spend time with the elderly of the community providing physical therapy, exercises, games and nutritious meals.
Many of the elderly in the community live alone and have little positive activity and nutrition. Twenty eight elderly from the community spent several days enjoying the activities planned by volunteers.
Socializing and interacting with each other is an important part of staying healthy. Exercises, games, dancing, crafts and providing healthy meals improves lives.
An Andean tradition.
In the rural Andean communities Christmas holidays are celebrated by handing out bags of animal crackers and candies to the children.
Here in the rural Indigenous communities, this simple tradition brings pleasure to children and adults alike.
Please help us continue to provide this small gift which brings so much joy to all during the holiday season.
