The concept of Minga has existed since before Incan rule. Minga is the gathering of community members to complete a task that benefits all of the community. It is considered each individuals' obligation to the community. To earn water rights and community voting rights each member must fulfill the obligation.
In this day and age, the Mingas are called to repair or maintain the roads, water systems, forests, community land…...and in this case, to build the Health and Education Center.
The mood is always festive despite difficult and demanding labor.
