Maria Enma Perugachi has been an active leader of the community of Yambiro for over 20 years. She speaks of the need to support the younger students so that they can continue to study and reach for goals that their parents were never able to achieve.

Thanks to many, many kind supporters, the Ali Shungu Foundation has provided 30 scholarships for the 2009-2010 school year.  Scholarships were presented by Tio Ernesto Saransiq, Secretary of the Ali Shungu Foundation and Community Leader.

Tia Eugenia Farinango of Agualongo, Otavalo, Ecuador  is a single mother who has struggled to educate herself and her children.  She explains the need for financial assistance to educate the young people of the rural areas.

A Few Words of Thanks from a Student

All kids love a playground.  It was as simple as renting a truck and hauling 50 village children to the San Sebastian Playground outside of Otavalo.  They lasted for about three hours but it was agreed that everyone had a grand time!

Slide Show:  There is no shortage of young mothers and babies in these rural communities.  Clothing is expensive and when travelers bring down a suitcase or two filled with clothing it helps these young parents with their financial burdens!

Christmas for the rural Indigenous children of the Andes is a time to receive candy and animal crackers.  The Ali Shungu foundation has distributed navidades to over 200 children from the community of Yambiro for 8 years.

The Kettle Morraine High School in the US sponsored a benefit event  through their basketball program.  Over $4,000. was raised and donated to the Ali Shungu Foundation.  This video documents the presentation  of a computer to the school in Larcacunga.

Semana Santa

The Ali Shungu Foundation Scholarship program is in its 8th year.  Thanks to the kindness and generosity of several consistent contributors, 27 students receive financial assistance as an incentive to continue their studies.  It is an investment in the future!
