We are looking for someone who can volunteer to write a grant...can you help?

At long last we have inaugurated the Yambiro Library/Knowledge Center.  Students and adults from 5 communities will have access to over 750 books, 2 computers and educational DVDs to be viewed on a new Television and DVD player.

Are you or your organization looking for a volunteer program?  The Ali Shungu Foundation sponsors an informal program looking for qualified volunteers to help:


Teach English, provide Medical Assistance, Teach Art, Dance, Phys. Ed., Science, Math, Computer Skills, etc.

Teams of Doctors and assistants arrived  to spend two days offering free medical check ups and medication to children and adults of Yambiro.  Dr. James Hoyne speaks of his mission and of the future of the Yambiro Health/Education Center.

Tandana Foundation Medical Mission

Alex, Ted and Jessi are frequent visitors to Ecuador from Va.  This year Jessi held a "scholarship drive" at the local jr. high school which resulted in a total collected of $366.  This contribution will go to the 2008-2009 scholarship fund.

Funds for the Scholarship Program

The IHF sent 4 student volunteers from the University of Dartmouth to help at the Yambiro school.  Volunteers taught English, taught basic computer skills and repainted the world map on  a school building that had faded.  Good interviews.

An engineering student from Ecuador and two students from the University of Wisconsin spent Easter week studying the water system of 5 rural communities.   This is project initiated by Peter Bosscher of the University and the students will return this summer.

Greg Johnson and his class of high school students planned a used clothing drive before their trip to the Galapagos Islands.  They arrived to  the school of Yambiro one afternoon with hundreds of lbs. of used clothing to distribute to the village children.

Steve Wood is a renowned artist living in Colorado.  Steve works with students in the US Education system.  His family decided to spend some time in the Otavalo area and they gave much to the children at the Yambiro school.

Many, many thanks to Barbara Hohol of Texas who will continue to support the Scholarship program which allows young ladies to continue their educations through High School.  Barbara has made a commitment to support 8 young ladies!

More support for the 2008-2009 Scholarship Program arrives

For three years a study has continued in the engineering classes of Peter Bosscher.  This summer, his students spent 10 days working with local villagers to replace 1500 meters of water pipes.
